FAQ Opening an Account

Q. Do I have to complete the application form in full if I only want to open a savings account?

A. Yes. This is necessary to comply with current regulatory and anti-money-laundering requirements.

Q. Do I need to send money with the application form?

A. No. You can send money under separate cover. However, for deposits, including cheques, please quote your Account Number (if you know it), your name and the type of account.

Q. What is the difference between a Customer Reference Number and an Account Number?

A. Your Customer Reference Number is used to identify ALL accounts with Abbey International that you hold under the same name(s). Your Account Number is a unique 8-digit number that identifies each account you hold in the bank's records.

Q. How long does it take for an account to be opened?

A. As long as we received the necessary identification documentation, your account will normally be opened within 3 business days of receipt of your application.

Q. How many accounts can be opened using one application form?

A. You may request a range of accounts as long as they are all to be opened under the same name(s). For some limited edition accounts you may need to complete a separate application form.

Q. I wish to open an account with my partner, who lives in a different country / is a different nationality. Is this a problem?

A. No. Unless there are legal, regulatory or business reasons relating to your partner or their country of residence, this would not be a problem.
